SLUICE GATE
 
These are plain rectangular shaped Gates provided for Irrigation Outlets & Power outlets.

These are also provided:
 

a) For the safe diversion of the flow of water during the construction of a dam across a river in which case these are known as Construction Sluice Gates.
b) To flush out the sediment silt in the river bed from time to time in which case these are known as Scouring Sluice / River Sluice Gates.

Generally two Sluice Gates in tandem are providing for each outlet:

 

 

  • Service Gates: These are located at the downstream side of emergency Gates for the routine operation of control discharge & have upstream sealing arrangement. Service Gates are operated by Screw Stem Hoist of standard capacities 5, 8, 12, 25, 30 & 40 Ton or any designed capacities depending upon Gate size & water head.
  • Emergency Gates : These are mainly located at the upstream side of service gates and used in emergency conditions when Service Gates requires urgent repairs. These are used either in fully closed or fully open condition & have downstream sealing arrangement. These Gates are operated by Wire Rope Drum type Hoists.

Sluice Gates (both Service Gates & Emergency Gates) are classified into following two types based on their movement in the Gate Slot:

  • Sliding Type Sluice Gates have metallic seal plates, which slide on the metallic seal plates of Embedment in the Gate Slot.
  • Fixed Wheel Type Sluice gates have roller wheels on either sides of the Gate Leaf, which rolls over the Track Plates of the Embedment in the Gate Slot.

Sluice Gates are Stadardised in the following sizes:

  • 0.9 x 0.9 M for 20 M Water Head
  • 1.2 x1.2 M for 15, 20, 25 & 40 M Water Head
